Frank Watson's Incredible Hole-In-One at GCC! | Golf Magic (2025)

A stunning moment unfolded at Greenville Country Club on an otherwise routine Tuesday noon as Frank Watson achieved something remarkable—a hole-in-one that left everyone buzzing. But here’s where it gets interesting: this wasn’t just any hole-in-one; it happened during the popular social event known as “The Noon Game,” right on his home turf.

Just like every Tuesday around noon, members assemble at the putting green, ready to team up for a friendly yet competitive round. On October 7th, nine members formed three trios, ready to take on the course together. Among them, the middle group was made up of Mike Eaton, Brad Perry, and retired State Senator Frank Watson. Up until hole 11, their play looked pretty typical: Perry was launching drives straight down the fairway with impressive power, Eaton was showing his dependable consistency by hitting greens and sinking straightforward pars, and Watson was struggling a bit, not quite in his rhythm.

Then came hole 12, a stunning par 3 that stretches 128 yards from the tee Frank normally uses—a scenic challenge that often tests precision and nerves. Watson teed up with his hybrid, swung with clean, perfect contact, and sent the ball sailing down a flawless path. The shot landed just short and slightly to the left of the pin, which happened to be perfectly positioned that day.

What happened next had everyone on edge: the ball, sitting just off the green, began to roll smoothly toward the hole, breaking gently to the right. The group’s anticipation grew with every inch the ball traveled until, suddenly, it vanished into the cup. An ace!

This hole-in-one wasn’t just a lucky shot; it invigorated Frank, boosting his confidence for the rest of the round. He closed out the game with his best 18-hole score of the summer, leading his team to a decisive win over the other pairs.

Interestingly, this was Frank’s second career hole-in-one, the first dating back to September 2nd, 2020, at the Roland Barkau Memorial Golf Course in Okawville, Illinois. But as he himself said, this one felt even more special—both because it happened during the cherished “Noon Game” and because it took place at his beloved home course at Greenville Country Club.

Here’s the question that might divide opinions: how much of a role does familiarity with a course play in these moments of golfing magic? Is it pure skill, a stroke of luck, or maybe something else entirely? Feel free to share your thoughts—do you believe the home advantage really makes a difference in moments like these?
