DIY Fendi Baguette: Stitching a Fashion Week Accessory (2026)

Crafting a Fashion Statement: My DIY Fendi Baguette Journey

The Challenge:
Imagine stitching a designer bag, a Baguette, no less, in time for New York Fashion Week. That's the daring feat I embarked on, blending my love for fashion and needlepoint.

The Inspiration:
It all began with a simple commute past The Village Ewe, a local stitchery. The allure of manual sewing, its meditative rhythm, and the satisfying progress of filling canvas squares captivated me. But the real spark came from Fendi's reintroduced needlepoint Baguette kit.

Collaborating with Fendi:
I reached out to Fendi, envisioning a collaboration. My idea: designing the Baguette using archival Vogue imagery. The PR team embraced the concept, and soon, a giant yellow bag arrived. Inside, a canvas Baguette awaited, accompanied by threads, needles, and a Greek key pattern guide.

Unveiling the Design:
I delved into the Vogue Archive, seeking inspiration from Christian Bérard's butterfly drawings. His 1937 illustration with human eyes caught my eye. I then scoured Vogue covers, finding Art Deco patterns and a 1908 drip logo reminiscent of graffiti artist Krink.

The Creative Process:
With Parker Hubbard's help, we decided on butterflies for the front and the logo for the back. I sought more Bérard needlepoint in Vogue Paris, 1939, but settled for tracing the design. The bag's sides and bottom remained blank, awaiting further creativity.

Stitching Journey:
I embarked on my embroidery adventure, stitching on planes, trains, and during meetings. Weekly check-ins with The Village Ewe friends kept me motivated. I experimented with color palettes and beading, adding structure with wire in the seams and front flap. The sides proved challenging, leading to a complete redesign.

The Final Touches:
The strap, adorned with blue and sand stripes and micro glass beads, completed the bag. I carried it proudly during New York Fashion Week, proving that DIY fashion can be both functional and fashionable.

A Fashionable Endeavor:
This journey showcases the power of blending personal passions with fashion. It's a testament to creativity, perseverance, and the joy of crafting a unique statement piece.
